WORKSHOPS

Body Casting – Using plaster, plaster gauze, and skin wax, we will make molds of our faces and hands in preparation for sculptural works.  Taught by guest instructor Kim Bernard.

Building Depth + Dimension – Work in layers to create dimensional paintings that move beyond the flat surface and draw the viewer’s attention into the work.

Cold Wax 101 – Discover the possibilities of working with cold wax and pigment sticks while developing a deeper understanding of transparent and opaque paint.

Embedding Objects + Pours – Using the backs of cradled panels, we will explore pours and create reliquaries to contain meaningful objects.

Encaustic Essentials – Whether you are new to encaustic and need to learn how to apply, heat and fuse, need a refresher or you aspire to teach the medium to others, this workshop will cover the essential information necessary to set up a safe studio and get started.

Diptych Collaboration – Partnering with another artist, we will shake up our artistic practices as we create art that connects to our partner’s work visually or metaphorically.

Mini Monoprinting Workshop – Use your hot plate to pull unique encaustic prints that can be enhanced with pigment stick or metallic leaf and mounted on panels.

Metal/ Metallic – Learn tricks to combining small found objects, nails, and other types of metal with wax. Work with metallic pigments and metal leaf to emphasize sheen and add iridescence to your work.

Professional Development for Artists – Join the conversation as we discuss strategies around finishing work, pricing, approaching a gallery, submitting to shows, social media, and websites.

Wax Resist – Incorporate wax markings, gestural strokes, stamping, folding, batik and resist dyeing to achieve dynamic results that are uniquely your own.

Yoga – Start your day with gentle to moderate yoga and mindful meditation designed to leave you feeling strong and grounded.  Mats provided, all levels welcome.  All 5 yoga sessions count as one workshop.
