PRIVATE INSTRUCTION + Mentoring

I offer private instruction out of my studio in Westbrook, Maine, where you will have access to a 16” x 16” R&F heated palette, an R&F adjustable heat gun, an Iwatani butane torch, a professional grade ventilation system, and a wide range of tools, brushes, and supplies. I provide the full range of R&F encaustic paint colors, as well as R&F Pigment Sticks, encaustic medium, blending medium, and gesso.

Mentoring can take place over the telephone or through Zoom. It can be customized to support any level of ability and to cover a wide range of subjects including studio set up and equipment; creating a smooth, even surface; building layers and translucency; working large; collage; working with Pigment Sticks; and professional development such as building a website, approaching a gallery, or pricing. A session might involve targeted exercises or feedback and direction on a current body of work.

Private instruction and mentoring are both great ways to get focused instruction on the areas you need support with as an artist. Private instruction is $150/ hr per person and includes all materials, except panels. There is a 4 hour minimum for private instruction. Virtual mentoring is available for $100/hr. Email for more information or to schedule a session: dietlind.vanderschaaf@gmail.com.

“I don’t think I can articulate the depth of my gratitude for our time together today. The time spent looking at my work and the critiquing of my artist statement was such a bonus. You saw things I didn’t see or even consider and you brought a level of professionalism to my presentation that was missing. I welcome the challenge of beginning my paintings in a new way and “getting comfortable feeling uncomfortable” painting with large brushes.

The studio is beautiful, but what really makes it incredible is seeing it filled with all your work.”

“You are a talented teacher with a generosity of spirit I truly appreciate. One example of your fine teaching is the level of attention you gave to every question asked. It is a special quality to fully focus in the moment and with the person in front of you. I felt that level of attention with your teaching. You feel like a wonderful guide on my journey to finding my authentic artistic expression.”

“I am so full of gratitude for your presence in my life.  You are such a gifted teacher. Your ability to articulate the elements that underlie the process of creating a painting is so powerful and digestible in a way that I have not experienced with other teachers. I leave your classes/workshops inspired and with new ways to begin and understand my own process and work.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
